The film generated controversy much of it about allegations by the crew and lead actors of working conditions that were not ideal at the set as well as the film's explicit depiction of sexuality. The juries of 2013, the Cannes Film Festival unanimously awarded the film the Palme d'Or, as well as the FIPRESCI award.
